fitting a bumper bit to vampire chicken

Recommended Posts

My three new ladies are settling in well, despite missing tail and back feathers. however, the araucana does nip the cochin's bum occasionally and I have noticed a bit of blood there which, obviously, will attract more pecking.

What's the best way to proceed? I did spray the cochin with anti peck spray last night (the only way I can catch them at the moment is to wait until they're roosting in the eglu).

Should I just purple spray the cochin's bum, or is it advisable to fit a bumper bit to the araucana? it's early days in their own pecking order, so I don't want to rush things.

I have no idea how to fit or remove a bumper bit!

Oh dear, well that went well. Managed to trap father jack and Mrs Doyle in the sleeping area. Mrs Doyle was a sweetie and let me purple spray her bum. She went into a box as she was then purple and Sheila is a lovely white colour (currently!). Went back for father jack and she scooted past me and into the garden. Pants! Opened run door to let her back in and Sheila zoomed out.. Decided to go for broke and let Mrs Doyle out of the box and the three of them have had their first free range rather earlier than expected - actually it was lovely and at no point did father jack bite mrs doyles bum.

They've put themselves back in the run so we'll have another go tomorrow afternoon.

The big girls were VERY keen to get out of their area to 'play' with them.
