My three light sussex ladies are about 18/19 weeks old and I am feeding them growers pellets. I am told that this breed are late to mature, but when do I switch to layers pellets ? Do I wait until they start to lay ? thanx, jane

You've been advised correctly

 

I switch to layers as they come into lay, which with Sussex is usually around the 5-6 month mark (depending on the time of year).

 

You just need to make sure that your growers pellets aren't medicated (contain ACS against cocci) as this shouldn't be fed to potential layers beyond 16 wks.

Hmmm... does that apply to Light Sussex Bantams too? Ours are 9 weeks (and getting friendlier every day! ).

 

I had been told to slowly change to Layers pellets over 14-16 weeks.
