beach chick
does anyone know, do hedgehogs burrow? up our path, which is sandy soil and some gravel and weeds, there are lots of small holes - too small for the dog or even a wild rabbit, more like lots of little s"Ooops, word censored!"es, I suppose a couple of inches wide and about 3-4 inches long. could this be hedgehogs? I know we have them around, but I've never seen this type of digging before. plus although we have wild rabbits round here I've never seen any in the immediate location (we are right next to the sea). It's not the cats either, if it was there would be cat poo in the middle of the digs... tis a mystery!!!
Egluntyne
Could it be rats?
craftyhunnypie
It does sound like rats - I've seen rat holes at my sisters farm, they sound just as you describe. Emma.x
beach chick
ugh I hope not.... well it could be rats I guess, but we have no other evidence of them. I get the odd field mouse around the chicken food shed; the cats bring in fieldmice, birds and lizards, but never rats. there is no sign of digging round the chicken run, which is where I'd expect to see signs. the holes/digging are quite odd, only on the left hand side of the path where it borders our field, so lots of trees/long grass etc. on the other side of the path there is a low stone wall behind which is a really wild area of the garden - nettles/ancient trees/weeds etc. totally uncultivated, so a real wildlife haven.
