SJChick
Hi Tomorrow I am going to collect 2 Silkie x Welsummer hens. I am just wondering if anyone else has owned/bred Silkie x Welsummers? If so, is there anything specific I should know. I am not new to hen keeping as i have 11 hybrids and 1 cockerel already and have always had hens at home as i live on a farm. Also, I haven't actually seen them yet because I bought them on the Marketplace so I am wondering just what characteristics and looks of each breed they will have!! Will I get a Silkie bod with longer legs or will they have short legs a Welsummer body and a tufty hairdo??! I know you can't tell me that but I just wondered if anyone has any other unusual combinations. I will love them whatever they are making me smile after a shocking first 6 months of 2010! jellykelly
I've got a silkie x wyandotte and tbh I can see nothing silkie about her. Her colouring makes her look more like a light sussex.
coco
I've got two Silkie crosses although not with a Welsummer. Coco is a Silkie cross Cream Legbar, she lays blue eggs. She looks just like a black Silkie but with feathers not fluffy like a silkie. She has black skin and blue ears and five toes. Pipa is a silkie cross silver spangle appenzeller, she has black skin. She did have blue ears but they went white. They are both very flighty.
SJChick
Hi I collected them yesterday evening, they are Silkie shaped with a bit of a hairdo going on and a fluffy tail and bum but in between they are Welsummer - I'm delighted with them - they are black with the odd tan feather. - just going to wait on the first egg now! Mollie333
I bet they look interesting. I had two silkie x pekins, fluffy heads but nearly pekin body and a half pekin half silkie comb..

SJChick
Here's a couple of photos of my new girls just finding their way around outside their house yesterday morning. Apologies for my lack of expertise with the digi-camera!

SJChick
Hi Yes, I didn't think they would fly much at all. One is fine and really quite bold but the other one seems constantly to be looking skywards and tonight when they went to their house she sat on the top of the door instead of going in - I am going out soon to see if she's moved!! Good fun
