migsy
Hi, My 14 week old newbies have been FRing all day with my big girls. The big girls have been giving them quite a few quick pecks when they have been eating the best grass, plants etc, but nothing too agressive and as soon as the little ones hop away, the peck has finished. I haven't seen anything particularly nasty and the little ones seem quite happy. When do you think I should put their eglu in the WIR with the big girls? chicken bark
From the dates in your signature you've had them a couple of weeks is that right? I'd be tempted to put them in together BUT the best thing would be to take it as slow as you can. The more space and time they have to get to know one another the less integration trouble you will have. You can always try it - and if it doesn't work separate them out again. It's very tempting to rush these things.
migsy
Thanks Chickenbark. Yes, I have had them 2 weeks. They are still in the garden all together. I've just been digging up potatoes and the big girls followed me around to get the worms. The newbies kept away - they obviously know their place! I'm putting my house on the market and so I want to consolidate the space in my garden and tidy it up but I've got about 2 weeks before it is ready to view so hopefully, that will be enough time to get them all together. Lesley
It sounds as if you've been taking it slowly and it's going well. As cb says, make sure you have extra feed stations and be prepared to move them away quickly if things become nasty. I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with having them all together. Have you got some purple spray ready for any pecks which may draw blood?
migsy
Good idea about the purple spray Lesley. Thanks.
