Margaret
Have just had to cancell my order for a Pink Cube as a Birthday pressy to myself As cannot get to roosting bars via side pop hole as I can with the Eglu, Like to clean bars and tray in morning before I go to work ( 5.30am) when I wake the girlies up,dont like the idea of flies in there during the summer and during winter they have gone to bed when I get home, and from the photos and chats with Omlet team it doesnt seem that the cube will work for me. Am so upset as have been planning it for almost a year, and really need more Chooks. Back to the drawing board.
Eggxactly
You can always slide the roof forward, over the cube and over the run and I am sure you can get them out that way, I often open the lid to look in mine, it is easy and takes seconds. Margaret
Thanks for the prompt reply Eggxactly. The problem is Cube will be situated inside the WIR, as Oh doesnt want it in the garden, only have a small one and Chickens have taken over half with their run at the moment. Wouldnt be able to get to roof via side hole in run, and dont want to go inside run in morning.
Mercedes55
I hadn't even thought of that problem. I also like to keep the bars clean. We only got our Cube yesterday and only put it together last night. As it was getting late we put it together in the living room then wheeled it through the conservatory and then out onto the patio where it is right now. I will go and investigate how easy it is to get the bars out right now as ours is going to be inside a WIR too
Mercedes55
Well I have just gone and checked mine. At the moment I can't seem to open the front door, not sure what has happened there Can only get to the bars by pushing the roof forward. We are having our Cube right up against a corner with the egg port on the side with an opening in the run to access it. We are also having a pair of half doors behind the Cube so that we can pull out the trays and access the back to remove it when we need to and I guess I will be able to just stand outside of the run and push the roof forward and reach the bars. My only concern really is that with the handle for the front being on the side I will have to go inside the WIR to let them out every day and once again to close it at night. My OH is trying to figure a way round that, but not really sure what other option there is

Mercedes55
Back from lunch, come on mercedes55, I need to know I did post a reply, maybe you need to refresh to see it Can you explain what your WIR is going to be set up like as maybe we can offer each other some advice here
Margaret
Ooops, we over lapped. Thanks for all the advice, wouldnt have a problem with front door as never close that, but still think it would be a pain to slide roof forward every time, also wouldnt be able to lock roof into place without going into run. Also have got one drop down door to pull eglu tray out to poo pick!! but even if OH made another one wouldnt be able to reach it. Suppose wouldnt need to pull trays out if could reach in via roof and just pick up poo from trays.
Mercedes55
Well I think I locked my roof from the back, although right now it's raining out there so I didn't have a good look. My concern right now is that the stupid front door won't open, the handle goes in and out, but the door just stays closed. As it came with the door already set in the front I'm worried it may need the whole front replaced
Mercedes55
I think I sorted it. You can push the divider up between the nest and the bars and just pull them out through the egg port. I just did it and it worked for me and I tell you I am not at all strong. If you like I can take some pics to show you
Margaret
Ohhh, yes please, could I leave the divide out like in the Eglu?? Cant post any pictures of WIR as not allowed to access photobucket etc as am at work (Should be working)
MummyHen
Margaret That would be such a shame if you couldn't fit in a You'd be more than welcome to come round and see my setup with the cube if you want to try it out I'm sure you'll find a solution. Mercedes55
Well here are some pics I took. I see no reason why you can't leave the divider out as it just presses in. I'm going to leave mine in but keep it slightly up so that I can just put my fingers in the gap to push it higher when I need to get to the bars. View through open egg port Lift divider up Bars half out Bars out
Margaret
Thank you so much, Think I have a plan, looks like it will work, can just leave divider out, Yippee.

Mercedes55
Can I reach all bars via pop hole? Yes both will come out easily, unlike the Eglu it doesn't have that smaller one that fits in the other side of the nest, just the two big ones. I only took the one out as it was raining
Margaret
Just spokern to Quinn at Omlet and he recommends that I keep the divider in so Hens know where to lay. BUT we dont have one in the Eglu So does the divider support some part of the Cube? If I dont put it in will it affect the rigidity of it. I really need a cube, sorry about all the questions. Mercedes55
Well I would agree with you to be honest. The Eglu has no divider between the bars and the nest and my hens are fine with that. I also can't see that the divider is giving any strength to the Cube as it basically is just wedged in. If you do decide to keep the divider in you can do what I am going to do which is just keep it slightly raised so that it's easy to pull up and get the bars out. No disrepect to Omlet but I phoned them earlier about the door on my Cube not opening and I was given the impression that it was my fault it wasn't opening and was told to use brute force to get it open. I'm not going to use brute force as I don't want to break anything. I was also advised to leave the door open all the time, yet why put a door there if you aren't supposed to close it
Margaret
Must admit I never shut my door as WIR is secure, and I do like a lay in (6am) at the weekends, but for sooooo much money I would expect it all to work in the first place. Thank you so much for all your help today, will try and see Mummyhens set up next week, and if it is as we think will buy my and adapt it so it works for me. Yipee. scarlettohara
You need to turn the door handle to unlock it before you can open it. And Quin is male Edited August 25, 2010 by Guest

You call 6am a lay in I have trouble crawling out of bed at 6.45am just to make a cup of tea for OH and let the hens out I guess we could just leave the door open on the Cube, assuming we ever manage to get it open
