Help my POL is not keeping up with her companion

Recommended Posts

I have two white leg horn chickens just coming up to 20 weeks a friend has reared them from eggs for us, but Houston i have a problem, for a while now we have noticed one of the girls is smaller than her companion not a lot but noticeable , also her combs have barely started to develop (they hatched the same day) whereas her companion has a great set of combs now this week she has developed a black k"Ooops, word censored!"bly growth on her head didn't pay too much attention to it as we had a Chinook helicopter go over very low and thought she had bonked the top of her head in panic it looked nice and dry so made mental note to keep an eye and see how it went, but now she has developed the same looking growth on her beak well below the nostrils she is eating fine although not as filled out as her companion, now ive hunted my books and forums and cant quite see what it is she may have, any ideas please. zoe

ive tried that it does come off its coming up through the beak she wasn't bothered when i did its not raw have left the one on her head as she had had enough of being held and was getting stressed so will take another look tomorrow if she will let me. thanks for all your help its really odd the vet who lives next door and has kept chickens for years thinks it might be fowl pox although not typical symptoms of where the pox pops up but today the other one has a similar growth coming up on her beak so it may well be pox in which case all should be well in 3 to 4 weeks.
