CallyChook
Today, the 9.5 week olds met the 7 week olds for the first time. There was much squabbling...mostly between the 9.5week olds who normally live happily! I finally got the shed to a liveable condition, so released all 10 together out into their free ranging space and sat back to intervene when the bullying began. Twingo was very much the boss and quickly made the garden His Territory, with the smaller younger chicks having to go underneath the garden furniture. He did let them stay there without too much violence though, so long as they didnt start thinking they could just waltz on out into the open. Beaker and Twingo had much flapping... confirming my suspicion that Beaks is a boy. Oh well. He was very first to hatch and will be staying no matter what! My baby! So decided to let them all stay in the shed tonight rather than bring them back into the house, but to make sure the wee ones were ok overnight I put their brooder into the big shed, thus keeping Twingo off them and causing major harm while I'm not about. Hopefully in a couple of days they'll all be intermingling. It was very odd putting htem all to bed this evening, both because normally they're in my lounge, and also odd to go into my back garden and just pick chickens up rather than having to chase them with various stealthy methods! Pics are just being bluetoothed to my laptop so should be on photobucket and posted here some time tomorrow Then in the evening, I'm off to Leeds, 1.4 hrs away, to buy me a few females for my male-ridden hatchlings! Yay! I love getting new chooks, and these are polish crosses so should be interesting, quirky and may well be sporting photogenic hairdo's. To be honest, so long as there is some poland ancestry, and they are female, I'm not overly bothered what they look like. We just need to boost the oestrogen levels
