is it sour crop?

Recommended Posts

Our ex batt nugget is poorly today.. first signs she wasn't right yesterday morining, she just looked a bit peaky and seemed to be staring into space more than usual...but by the time I got back from work yesterday she was back to her normal self, bounding about the garden following us around.

This morning she has been really slow again, I havent seen her eat anything, but I did go out for a couple of hours first thing. Her crop feels as if she has eaten, it isn't hard but doesnt feel too swollen either. She has just done a big liquid poo, that was pretty much clear. I have brought her out of the coup and brought her to the water, she is now drinking and drinking...

Does this sound like sour crop??

Hi Rachel.

Having nursed a chicken with sourcrop for the last month, from your description, it doesn't sound to me like your girl has it at the moment. Also doesn't sound like crop impaction either.

Try to monitor her eating by penning her away from your other hens and also checking her poo. A general health check would be a good idea too. There is a link **here** on what to look for.

If she she is off her food and doesn't pick up after a couple of days, a trip to the vet might be warranted.

Hope your girl picks up soon.
