pegleston
Bought 2 little pekin bantams in June and both now should be coming up to point of lay (20ish weeks). Both bought as hens - they had a brother who looked very different - even at that age. One always a bit bigger than the other but quite similar otherwise. When I was opening the hen house door this morning both did the first half of a cock-a-doodle-do...and then spent the morning doing the same. No spurs as far as I can see - are they cockerels or do chickens (ever) make that noise. I made a video on you tube with them crowing - what do you think? Thanks in advance. -
karlotta
Oh dear.... sorry. They are definately boys. I'm surprised they haven't crowed till now though - my pekin boy started a weird croaky crow at 4 weeks. I'd take them back - breeders should be about to sex pekins pretty well! karlotta
It's such a shame as they look lovely! Do you have any pictures of them close up, they do run along like boys too.
Janty
Sorry you've ended up with two cockerels. I had a similar problem when I first started with two brahmas and we were heartbroken to send them back to the breeder. I cried for weeks. Electricbarbarella
I hatched some pekins last year and it was really obvious that one was a boy from the outset. once he started crowing it baceame very loud and very early in the space of a few days. sorry for you
