What to feed ducks ?

Recommended Posts

My local feed supplier had given me some samples of Fancy Feeds Waterfowl pellets to try. I've not started them yet as ideally I'd like to keep things simple and have ducks and hens all eating the same thing.

I expect they will be very good as formulated for ducks and geese.

When my ducks have settled I will let them FR with the hens and so they will have access to their grit. I think ducks need it if you feed them grain.

Hi

Some waterfowl feeds are floating pellets and designed to be put in water(so they float)

But it is probably cheaper to use layers pellets(I was paying abou £10 for a sack of 20KG waterfowl) and £6.95 for layers

I only bought waterfowl ones marine duck for the ducklings to stop the crows pecking them off on land. I use layers most of the time thats fine.

Good luck Donald :)

I use Allen and Page Smallholder range layers pellets for my full grown ducks. What age are the ducks you bought? What you are feeding them sounds fine, but make sure they don't just eat corn and ignore the pellets :)

They also need access to oyster shell if they are ladies and grit but they will get this if they have a bit of garden to forage in, and it's usually mixed in with oyster shell.

Allen and page also have experts in nutrition on their staff, so you can call them and ask them whatever you like for free, they really are excellent, 01362 822902.

Have fun with your new ducks!
