Aubiose and the compost bin

Recommended Posts

Just wondered about my used Aubiose and my compost bin. Fellow members are always praising the aubiose/compost bin system, saying that it decomposes quickly etc. I would like to know 'how quickly'? I could fill my compost bin in propably 4 - 5 clean-outs. Will the stuff at the bottom be ready to come out? Do you need to put other compostable stuff in too? I've got a huge garden, but most I send away in my green bags with the council. It takes a long time to decompose in the compost bin, and fills up in no time! I would love to hear what others do!

We have a double wooden composter which we use by filling one side while the other is gradually dug out. We put the aubiose & any other garden waste (shredded if need) in the collecting side side and then transfer it to the other when that is emptied meaning the oldest is at the top, ready to dig out. This way it's about 6-9 months before it goes in the garden, But we have put it straight on the beds as well.

Composting is like baking - it's a science - you need the right mix of stuff to make it really work. I have a great little pocket book published by the Centre for Alternative Technology. Not sure if they still do the book but I think they have some downloads on their website quite cheap with composting tips.

Things to help is rot down are - Garotta (can be found in the gardening bits of B&Q etc), wee, water, ideally you need to put some other things in between the Auboise stuff layer like shredded paper, cut grass, gardening green rubbish etc. Give it a stir once in a while, you can buy a tool to do that with. You can sprinkle some of the Bokashi stuff too according to the packet.
