amateurkeeper
Hello Our fiesty ex-batt chicken, who was (is?) boss of the pack has suddenly become incredibly listless this afternoon. Whereas she'd be roaming around, dust bathing and bullying the others (even the non-ex batts!) she was asleep where she stood in the WIR this afternoon, and after a while retired to the coop and has stayed there since. She's constantly sleeping, and as you can imagine I'm all worried about her. Could it be related to my topic last week about her "bloody" soft egg? (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=69035) It only happened the once and she's been fine since but you never know. The only other thing I can think of is that she's broody...the OH did turf her out at one point, and she proceeded to drink alot of water apparently. She's not even coming out for her favourite treat of tomatoes, however being an ex-batt I'm not sure if it's possible for her to be broody?! Oooh I've gone on a bit....will stop here I think!!! Any advice welcome. Thank you in advance!!!
Plum
I would expect it to be another softie coming
amateurkeeper
Oh dear - Poor Ginge will keep a close eye on here incase of more blood, or even a prolapse. We've had numerous softies from her before, but she has never been this listless before.
Mercedes55
I do hope she is okay. It's such a worry when they don't seem themselves. I don't think I have ever worried so much as there seem to be so many different things that hens can get wrong with them
sandyhas3chucks
I wouldn't expect her to be broody, a softee oft does make them need more water in my experience, however so does running a temperature. fingers crossed for a softee released by the morning
CallyChook
I'm not saying this is what your hen has by any means, but my cockerel died a few months ago from heart failure and his main symptom was sleepiness. He was listless for a few weeks then his comb went black and he passed away. He also was very very thirstyat the beginning. Fingers crossed she bucks up and was just having a tired off day x
amateurkeeper
Thanks for your replies. She seems to be herself this morning, but no softie. Will keep a close eye on her. Thanks again!
