Forestchook
Okay, I thought I ought to say a proper hello although I have made a couple of posts already. I've been lurking for a while but finally joined as will hopefully be getting chickens soon. Basically I am being given some which the people who own the field next to us have breed this year. They own the garage my brothers take their cars to (they have quite a few between them!) and heard I was interrested in keeping chickens. Well I couldn't say no could I? I got to see the chicks a couple of weeks ago and they are very cute and very small. Even the parents are small! I can't remember what they were except for millfluers and bantams but they look a lot like sparkysmum's Sablepoots only darker. There are 5 of them but I think I'll end up with three as they want to keep a couple. By the size of the comb at least one is a boy. Since he will get the chop otherwise I've said I will give him a chance. Unfortunately he still may have to go if he upsets the neighbours . Fingers crossed he will be quiet! He will also be with his sisters so he will not become a father himself - no chicks unless the fertile eggs come from elsewhere! (Maybe in a year or two once I got the hang of this chicken keeping lark) I don't know when they'll be moving here yet, since thier Mum was still looking after them when i meet them. I also don't have a coop for them yet Soon though (although not soon enough for me) Better stop rambling now. Just wanted to say hi N
Mollie333
Welcome! Exciting stuff. Are they Pekins? xx
Forestchook
Thanks. No they are not Pekins although I would love some of them (if or more likely when I expand my flock ). As I said they look a lot like Sparkysmum's sablepoots or maybe the booted bantams on the breeds list but that neither is the name I was told. I do have some pictures althouh the chicks are mostly blurred because they would not stay still. Unfortunately posting photos is beyond me at the moment so you'll have to bare with me .
