joza2210
Hello , I have a salmon pekin that is broody and she was sat on 5 eggs and had around 1 week to go until they hatched ... She came out for a scrat about this morning and my dad just looked in the house to see how the eggs where and there was none there! Where had they gone ? We dont have any rats so it cant be them ... The only other thing that she has ate them ? We have been supplying her with food and water ... What could it be ? Josh
craftyhunnypie
Sometimes they can sense if there is any life in them & if not they eat them. Mother Nature knows best. I had a broody who did this. Emma.x
Egluntyne
'Fraid so ... she will have eaten them. It does happen from time to time. She could have accidentally broken one and got a taste for them.
Redwing
Yup I agree, she either broke one by mistake and got a taste for them or ate them if they werent viable The other thing to double check is that someone didnt collect them thinking they were eating eggs

Egluntyne
I wouldn't set any more eggs under her as she may well do it again it is rather late in the season anyway.
craftyhunnypie
I wouldn't use a broody this time of year. You could use an incubator instead, but be very prepared. You would have to keep them indoors for a long time under heat. I'm hatching, but mine will definitely be indoors /heated rearing shed for a very long time. Any chicks hatched this time of year are going to be faced with the cold of Winter. I do it because I have all the facilities for rearing & the time & patience. But please please think carefully about hatching this time of year. Emma.x
