I am new to raising chicks I have 7, 3 week old buff orpington chicks. Over the last 24 hours one of the chicks legs has twisted and is pointing to the side, is there anything I can do to rectify this or is it a case of taking it to the vet. I would be grateful of any advice.

I would suggest you take it to a vet. I'd be concerned about this being Marek's disease.

At 3 weeks it's very unlikely to be Mareks but I guess it could be broken. Splayed or twisted legs are there from birth. I'd take the chick to the vets.

What can the vets do for a twisted leg? I'm concerned about my chick who is around 6 weeks old suddenly slipping over and kind of goose stepping about

They could splint it if it is a dislocation or tendon problem.

ive just woken up and it was there with its legs in the air, alive on its back..help.....

Probably not what you want to hear, but if I were you, I'd cull it.

yes, i think thats all i can do.. such a pity, its one of my baldnecks, im hoping the other chicks wont catch it if its something like Mareks, .. oh dear!, i feel stressed and its only 8.30am..

Chick has had his leg splinted so only time will tell. Will let you know how he gets on. Thanks for the help

 

I didn't think keeping chickens was so addictive they should come with a government warning !!!!
