EGLU HEAT PROBLEMS

[sari]

Has anyone ever used a Green house frame as the basis for a WIR? Obviously I'm going to remove the glass ( its a 1960's one..plate glass + I'm clumsy and my daughter is dyspraxic = recipe for A+E) I don't want roast Chickens and my FiL is a steel engineer so I can get really good mesh.....plus some polycarb on the roof?? What do you think ? Am I mad..or will it work?? I reallt want a WIR, from a housekeeping point of view, seems easier to maintain ( please put me wrong on this , if I'm wrong!!

So any ideas etc...fire away

Not mad at all, someone on here did just that - I can't remember who, but it might be worth searching 'greenhouse' to see if it comes up, you'd have to go back a year or two.

Sounds like a plan - my WIR is almost the same size as my greenhouse, only it's square whereas the greenhouse has a sloping roof, however that won't bother the hens!

Ta Olly.....I did have a bit of a search....I'll do a better one *blushes*........it just seemed silly to take it down, and build basically the same structure out of wood......

Seems a good idea to me.

The pic of the one may be in this thread - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12663

Its a good idea, just be sure you attach the mesh really well - cable ties are good for this!

I kept my show chickens in a greenhouse last winter (with the glass in) and the space was perfect for them

I've just looked through the file of peoples walk in runs. I have one heck of a lot to aspire to. My fave is the 2 interlocking round ones. What a lot of amazingly creative people are out there.

Mine won't be as fancy looking as some of these, but it's the functionality and enrichment that counts! I am looking to take the glass out tomorrow, and give it a good clear out...leaving the staging on one side, with some branches going from floor up..to give the little'un somewhere to escape to....have got some good ideas.....but am constrained by a lack of funds....OH was made redundant in March and luckily found a job ( after 100's of apps) in July...it's just been made permanent, so phew....money coming back in now!! SO....work starts tomorrow!!

Hope the weather stays good for operation greenhouse transformation.

I'm eyeing up my lean-to greenhouse now only it's on the wrong side of the house and I wouldn't be able to see them.
