juliec
Hi I witnessed something quite strange today, one of my older ladies Doris (top chicken) appeared to mount one of my younger chickens foghorn leghorn (bottom chicken) in a strange kind of mating behaviour, i was a little taken aback and wondered if any one else had encountered this sort of behaviour with their girls? Patricia W
It's about domination - unless she is a he? They can sometimes change sex- but that is unusual so I expect she is just trying to be top chook.
sari
In my other post I've mentioned this. One of my Sussexs was doing this to my poor baldy bottomed Legbar. I was told she's dominating her. It looked quite horrible, as she was pecking the back of her neck too. The Legbar is a very nervy mournful creature ( I did that terrible newbie crime of feeling sorry for her, and bringing her home with the others! ) It's settled down a bit now.....hope it does for you too. the bradley bunch
yep it most probably is about domination. my ex-bat jumped on my new chicks back when they were first introduced in a very unexpected manner! fortunately she only did it once though! hope yours settles down soon & doesn't cause you too much concern!
