The Super Glug, will they work out how to use it?

Recommended Posts

We got our Cube on Monday and we got our chooks today!!

We've got a Bluebelle, a Golden Ranger, a Columbine and a Speckeldy.

My question is: we have filled up the Super Glug, but so far (we've only just got them home!) they haven't found it. Will they? I'm paranoid about them becoming dehydrated..

I was worried too when we got our 5 just over a month ago.

I just showed them how it worked by pushing the red teets in to show them that water came out, did that for 5 minutes then watched and one caught on quite quickly and the others learnt from her.

I did however get a gravity drinker as well to go in my walk in run, they actually prefer that but do use both and the glug is a great back up when they kick aubiose in the gravity drinker

My hybrids got the hang of it after I spent about 4 hours flicking the metal bits on the bottom of it, but they only took small drinks so I gave them a standard Glug. My ex-batts haven't shown much interest in it either, so I bought them an extra Glug.

The spare Glug arrived today - at which point all three ex-batts immeduiately started to drink from the Super Glug! They were very nearly ex-ex-batts I can tell you!

I've found the chickens only seem to use the Super Glug when there is no alternative. I'd suggest that you spend some time showing them how to use it (ridiculous I know) but perhaps provide them with water in a dog bowl for an hour or two each day. That way, if they can't get the hang of it straight away they won't dehydrate.
