Burtie14
Hi everyone, The mornings and evenings are getting shorter, and we’re spending less and less time during the week with our lovely hens. One of the things we’re worried about is them not getting their grain, but we don’t want to scatter it on the ground in the morning as we want to give them something to occupy themselves with in the afternoons. So, we’ve got a cat-food timer! And I’m pleased to say that it’s a success. We bought a Cat-Mate, taped the inner trays down, and have hung it vertically on the side of the run. Every day we put their grain and a few mealworms in, set the timer, and hey presto! At about 4pm they get a shower of tasty treats for our good girls. Only drawback is that the first time it happened, they were terrified. We thought it was a Godzilla-sized fox with a machine gun judging by the fuss they made. However, they seem quite used to it now and I’m sure they’ll soon prefer their automated feeder to their loving mummy and daddy.
