Essex Ex-Batts rehoming: 16th Oct 2010

Recommended Posts

Having seen similar, I thought I'd try a thread and see if anyone else was rehoming next Saturday from the BHWT in Essex?

We've put our name down for 3 / 4 hens and are very excited! I haven't stopped thinking about them, have begun building a WIR and have bought loads of stuff, despite telling my husband they wouldn't cost much to 'run'! Ooops. I think we've got everything we need and now just need to put the Eglu run (green eglu) together and pin it to the ground in case the WIR isn't finished - the mesh has arrived but I've yet to staple it to the frames, or the frames together! I've also decided to chuck out the woodchips and replace with Hemcore instead - much easier for cleaning so I hear. These are out first ever girls, so we're a bit worried about doing it all wrong, but are going to give it a go anyhow. :anxious:

I thought here could be a place where anyone else who recues hens from the same 'batch' could share experiences, worries, successes, etc.

Hope to hear from lots of you soon!

Hi Merlotti

Falkor posted the other day about a rescue on the same day in Northants and I pm'ed her to ask if any were coming to Essex.

Have you got the contact details of the co-ordinator so I can get in touch ?? I have an empty coop just waiting for some more girls.....

Woo hoo !!! Will be getting hens now  .

I've heard back from Hen Rehomers (I originally e-mailed them about 2 months ago) and they have a rescue on the 6th of Nov. I am collecting from Rochester, Kent. I've decided to collect from them as the BHWT don't have a date for November yet, and as I work one weekend a month it would just be my luck that I wait for the BHWT rescue and it turns out that It would be when I can't go.

Nicola.

Falkor - thanks! Picked up Wilson, Betty and Keppel yesterday. They're settling in ok, although I'm not sure how well WIlson is. SHe laid this morning tho!

THey're eating the food, but only if we put it in trays on the floor, but haven't found the water yet - any tips?

THanks
