Whooo Hooo - great you have a cube, you won't regret it.

What's the best time to get more chickens? - ANY TIME!!!

I added 2 to my 6 a couple of weeks ago, then added 2 more a couple of days ago - and today I went to see a breeder in the next village from whom I got my rare sebrights -saw all his birds, WOW, including Norfolk black turkeys!!!!!

Wish I could have bought one of each - but they wouldn't all fit in the cube and my husband was with me - so I was a very good girl and just bought a sack of Garvo.

Shhhhh - this is a secret so I am whispering....

A friend of his has to get rid of his stock cos he's getting a divorce which is sad - so what could I do but help to fund it! He has some rare breed Belgium banties - so I am getting two smuggled in somehow. Fingers crossed long suffering husband doesn't notice. When I promised I would stop at 10 I had my fingers crossed behind my back!

How exciting :)

I've just become the happy owner of a (cube blue) too (though mine is still in pieces after the long drive back from Axminster) and am going to spend this half term week gently pointing out to my OH how much easier it will be to expand the flock when they are ALL new to the cube. Only 3 girls at the moment, but morehens being the virulent disease it is, I'm sure that only another 3 keep it under control....

Then hope to hatch some banties in the spring. Your flock sounds wonderful

I love my (cube pink) to bits. Only got the 3 black leggers in it at the moment but the 3 yellow leggers will soon be joining them as the intros and free ranging is progressing nicely. Little Moschops needs to get a bit bigger in order to get up the ladder. It's got to be done by Christmas for when we all go to my mum's in and they'll get to experience Boklins (got to put it back together yet), they'll love her garden it's full of plants that will need raking up and is good and big for exploring.

You really do need some more hens them roosting bars must be pretty empty. (cube orange) was my second choice.

I got my new cube & 3 hens yesterday (Monday). Thankfully my clear tarp also arrived so i sat in the run with them & a cup of tea. They seem to be settling in fine . I am really glad I ordered the tarp tho otherwise the ground would be squelchy v quickly & I would get wet hen watching. The farm I got my hens from still had plenty to choose from too.

Where did you get your clear tarp from :?: How do you fix it to the run :?:

I have the cube with 1M extension. I ordered the 3.6 x 2M tarp from http://www.allplaz.com/acatalog/Clear_Tarps.html. It was about £25 I think.

I attached it with wire in the eyelets to the fox proof plate & around the door end of the run, then ran a bungee from one end to the other around the 2 long sides near the base, & another bungee on each side from just under the cube to the door end. I prob would have just used bungees over the top if I'd bought a slightly shorter tarp but as it touches the floor on each side I did it that way instead. Hope that makes sense!
