chickenopolis
Morning This sounds odd, but the top of Flo's head is a little bit bald - she doesn't seem to have any "fluff" on the top of her head - I don't think they are feathers, and I don't want to call them fur, but for about half an inch from the base of her comb she hasn't any feathers. It looks like it has been rubbed away??????!!! I have checked her for mites and nasties, I don't think she has been pecked by Gloria as it's not bloody- she looks like she has just lost her hair - has anyone else come across this. She was loud this morning, had already laid an egg, and was tucking into some breakfast this morning (sadly it wasn't mash, it was spinach, mealworms and a chopped up grape...she'll eat the mash later I'm sure). Have any of your experienced chook keepers come across this. She is now 18 months old, hasn't gone through a moult yet. Can anyone help please. Thanks. Christian
She is probably starting to moult if she hasn't moulted yet.
chickenopolis
Thanks Christian. Thing is, this morning, it seems to be coming back, or it's less noticable! Anyway, she is her usual loud, beautiful self this morning, so I'll just keep an eye on it (promise not to become TOO obsessed by it ) * cough....yeah right..... Christian
There is nothing wrong with being watchful. Maybe she had a bad hair day? Mine are looking awful. But the feathers are starting to come back now. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mdwodzWeTi0/TL_wUeIQgdI/AAAAAAAABLA/6bZ2gEHlwg4/s1600/MOULTINGA%26C.JPG
chickenopolis
Oh, your girls are completely beautiful despite the lack of a few feathers. I have just picked up Flo for a) a cuddle and b) just to have a look at her comb. She wasn't impressed! I'll keep an eye on her, but let her do her thing (which at the moment she is digging in my empty raised bed looking for worms). Thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it.
