rachie16_f
We have two very friendly chooks who are allowed to free range in our (quite small) garden most days. Whilst this is lovely for them, they are slowly but surely destroying the garden and in particular my flower beds which this year I want to turn into mini veg allottments (with a few flowers in between!). The chooks just love scratching away at the soil in a most energetic manner and it has completely blurred the lines between lawn and bed, not to mention throwing a great deal of soil on the patio. The mess really is approaching the unbearable! Any ideas for somehow edging the borders with something that would be high enough to keep the soil in but low enough to be u"Ooops, word censored!"trusive? I dont mind the chooks still pecking away inside the beds...for now anyway! Rachel
Christian
The half log roll you can buy from garden centres might work? The only other option is to fence off the areas you don't want the hens to go near. The Omlet netting works well, and as it is green blends in quite well. C&T
Agree with Christian. For our Veg plot we use a combination of both. The Netting keps them out for when there are veg planted, and the log roll keeps the soil in when they are allowed in to help clear it up for me after the season has finished. Can't say that both options are 100% effective (they still managed to get to some leeks yesterday by stretching through the netting ) but seems the best solution so far!
