twinkle1001
hi, i have 3 ex batts who have been out of their cages for over a year and are going through their first moult. 2 of them are doing well but 1 seems really hunched and miserable. She is eating and drinking ok but all she seems to want to do is snooze. Is this normal? Should i be worried or do anything? All help greatly received! Thanks x
Steve the Gas
Give plenty of protein - they will get thru it quicker
Plum
It can take it out of them and make them vulnerable. I would do a general health check for any other problems.
twinkle1001
I have checked her all over, her crop is full appropriately, I can feel her gizzard churning and her poo seems fine - I'm hoping it is just the moult. Can I ask how long does it normally take before its over? Oh, and they were wormed about a month ago. Plum
Pigeon took weeks this year but last year seemed to last for months. Difference is I gave her lifeguard tonic this year and extra protien as tuna and catfood. Last year she had times when she stood around looking miserable. coco
Lily moulted last winter all through the really cold weather we had. She had only been out of the cages since November, she dozed a lot and and had a lack of co- ordination ans would walk sideways and backwards. Once her feathers re grew she was back to her usual bossy self. It took about 6 weeks and i gave her extra protien such as tuna and mealyworms. Lola has just started to moult and has no tail. I'm using Nettex total moulting solution which is supposed to be high in protein. Time will tell if it helps.
