lillybettybabs
I let the girls out this morning as usual, Went into the kitchen to wash my hands and looked out of the window only to capture Lilly and Fran doing a very odd thing. Lilly was walking around to round picking up pieces of bedmax and putting it on her back, Fran was following her and removing it from her back and putting it back on the floor It went on for a while! Odd lot.
Old Speckled Hen
My Blackrock tosses straw over her back after she has laid.
Egluntyne
It is typical nesting behaviour.
lillybettybabs
It was just before laying an egg so that would make sense, It was Fran running behined cleaning up after her that made me chuckle.
Plum
Not seen behaviour like Fran's before, how funny
LeeMeadfan
One of my girls (Joni) picks up small twigs and leaves and puts them on her back before she goes to lay her egg. She also often takes twigs and leaves to put in the nest box! Carlotta has taken to going back in to lay on whatever eggs are in there - don't think it's 'true' broodiness (but am a novice chook keeper!) as she will come out when I undo the eggport door, and doesn't do it every day.
