Donna C
Hi all, I've noticed that on the forum you all seem to use tonics etc to give u're girls eg, garlic, limestone powder etc. I only give my girls( 23 weeks) their grain and a few goodies from the kitchen. Can anyone tell me what each of these tonics do and if i should be using any of them. Many thanks
Plum
If your hens are healthy and happy eating normally you shouldn't need any. Having said that if they are moulting or stressed due to changes in living conditions or introductions it can help build their immunity or give them a boost. I give lifeguard when they are moulting and after they had an infection. Garlic helps stop the droppings stinking. Apple cider vinegar alters ph of gut keeping it healthy and makes me feel I am doing something to prevent infection. I used Herban (oregano based supplement) after I lost one with coccidiosis. Now I give them all in rotation but garlic powder in pellets all the time. Don't worry about any until you need them then take your pick from what is available locally.
