Hi, had my chucks for 5 weeks now but how can i stop them from sleeping in the nest box on a night. When i go to clean them out on a weekend that area is where most of the poo is or do they just go there because the straw is there to keep them warm

Regretably they just like to sleep there, when I had a (green eglu) they liked to sleep in it now I have a (cube pink) they still like to sleep in it. I have to empty the poop out and tidy up each day so it's not all horrible and they don't get poo on their feathers  . The only thing is that as they get bigger they can't all fit in it, I don't know how old/big your girls are. You could try putting a dish or ball or something to put them off going in there at bed time.

I read somewhere before I got mine that I should check that they are all roosting at night and that if anyone is sleeping in the nest box, I should encourage it onto a perch and it will stay there. We have Had to do this with two of our hens, once for each hen. Thereafter, they have slept on the perches and we have had clean nest boxes.
