CallyChook
Woke this morning to a poorly partridge silkie Shine is a tiny little thing, always been very light but still spritely and fine - just a wee chicken. But the last few weeks since the cold weather set in, she has been out more than she should be as a silkie, and refuses to stay in her roomy shed where the other 9 have been sensible and kept toasty. Day before yesterday she had a thorough soaking in rain, so I towelled her off and even gave her a bit of a blast with the drier. But looks like she might have chilled anyways as yesterday I didnt spend long wit hte birds due to xmas visitors and have only noticed this morning that she didnt want to come out for breakfast. She's doing the hunched up huddle thing and didn't object to me coming and grabbing her. She's spending the day in a cardboard pet carrier in my lounge with a bowl of water and one of layers pellets porridge... I have heard her move a few times but don't rate her chances too highly, she's just so tiny and light that she can't be coping well. fingers crossed - I'm not overly worried about infection as she is doing normal poos, maybe just maybe a warm couple of days will fix her x
chelsea
Is she showing any signs of a snuffle or croaky breathing? My cochin had to go to the vets last week as she was snuffly and they gave us a course of Baytril. She's much better now.
sandyhas3chucks
she doesn't need to be shut in in the dark during the day, she will need it to be light to eat and drink, some extra warmth so she is not using up her reserves keeping warm. a little tlc and some extra food to build her up, may well be what is needed. CallyChook
she passed away an hour after I posted this thread poor wee thing. No sign of any discharge or other "cold/flu" symptoms. Yet again I'm left stunned at how fast some hens seem to go downhill - I had her in my arms on thursday for a thorough check, I do it at least once a week with my silkies and polands. She was fine then
