Mites Again

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Had an absolute nightmare this year with mites, and still got them!!

I have always used Barrier Red Mite powder and Louse powder every six weeks and have never had a problem,

About 2 months ago I decided I needed something stronger so invested in some Zeno 200 which I have used, one dose then another two weeks later but I still can't shift them,

Any other ideas, bearing in mind that they have already had quite a lot of chemical on them,

They are all Very Old ex-batts, they don't lay anymore so no egg withdrawal problems!

Thanks

Caroline

They ought to respond to the Xeno unless the infestation is severe, in which case you may need to spray them too - two sprays a week apart. There are two sprays currently on the market - one by Johnson's (which is marketed for budgies) and t'other by NetTex. Both contain the same active ingredients - neither is licensed for use on poultry in the UK, although vets will recommend the use of a permethri-based spray. The Johnson's one doesn't carry a disclaimer as it's marketed for small cage birds, but the Nettex one does as it's on the poultry market.

I swear by Frontline spray for dogs and cats - kills everything within an hour or two - I treat 3 times a year and if i go to a show as a repellent in case they come back with anything.

Although here is my disclaimer..... Even though lots of poultry people use this product it is not licensed for poultry. As such there is no agreed withdrawl time for eggs. Some Vets will tell you eggs should never be eaten again. Other vets tell you not to eat the eggs for a fortnight.
