how to help the girls feel well.

Catherine - wait until your hens have finished their course of antibiotics, wait a bit longer just so they can be 'normal' and you are sure they are stable and well, and then you can use some of these other products (but not all at once!). Regarding treating the birds with the baytril - follow the instructions given you by the vet. He/she is your medical professional. There is no point in treating birds which are well, these antibiotics are not preventatives. What you must do is a) give the ill birds the full course and b) keep vigilant. IF more hens start to show symptoms, then being correct, you should contact the vet over the phone and ask if you can give the ill birds some baytril (bearing in mind this will mean your original ill stock may not get the full course of treatment depending on how much baytril you were given. I find the vet usually gives me a bit more than I need to allow for 'accidents' when syringing!) If your ill birds don't look better by the end of the course then get back in touch with the vet. If this happens, personally I would push for tylan next time if this is myco (ie if there are bubbly eyes).
