Chucky Mama
Just a quick winter reminder to keep dogs well away from icy lakes and ponds. We heard a horrible story last year of a local dog owner who had to watch her poor little dog drown when it fell through ice in the middle of the lake It still haunts me. Rescuing dogs in this situation is perilous as if the ice is thin enough for them to fall through it is too dangerous to walk on to try and rescue them. The fire brigade were called out locally this week to rescue a guide dog that had fallen through ice and became trapped Thankfully they managed to rescue it. beach chick
a couple of the papers had pictures yesterday of a woman who went in after her Labrador, fell through the ice and was very luckily hauled out by her dog lead. meanwhile, the Lab got himself out (!) could have been VERY different though. lillybettybabs
I was picking up on a shoot a week ago, A bird was shot and landed on a frozen pond. Now way was i going to send my dog for it, The gun asked me if id seen it as i didn't send a dog , I replied yes but my dogs welfare is far more important than a dead bird! The Dogmother
Too right Karen. I'#d always recommend keeping a dog on a lead or under control around icy water. In most cases, the dog seems to get out OK, while owners have perished while going to the rescue
