I was watching Kirsties Homemade homes last night and loved the soap making section.

 

I was just wondering if anyone had tried making it and also selling it/any soap etc at craft fairs.. is there a lot of legal bumf about selling it?

My mother ran a company selling soap for about 5 years. Yes there is a huge amount of legal bumf about it if you want to sell it. Every type of soap has to be certifide to say it safe for human use if you want to sell it.

 

If you want to try melt and pour (a base that you add colour and scents to) you can get some that are pregistered but if you want to our make cold proccess I.e from scratch you have to follow a huge amount of eu directives about how to label it and you have to have the recipey and ingredients certified by somone who knows what they are doing for example some chemists. Also because you would be retailing it you'd need to follow the trading standards rules aswell as the eu ones.

 

I'll be honest it's a bloomin nightmare to get everything sorted so you can sell it particually cold proccess.

Lol yeah they never mention the hard part. It's good fun if your just having a play.

Have a look at the soap kitchen's web site.. I picked up my xmas pres from my DH, from there today(i ordered it, pd for it and collected it!!)
