Hi all

 

Sorry if this is a daft question, just need some advice on how I should be looking after the woodchips and free range area of the garden to keep it healthhy for the girls.

 

The Eglu is on a woodchip area but the girls make a right mess getting the mash all over the floor, not much poo there but how do I make sure it stays fresh for them?

 

Garden area is lacking grass now, I try to poo pick regularly but should I do anything else such as Stalosan to keep it clear of nasties?

the 2 areas that I have wood chiped I just rake over to level it as my mob turn them over every time the free range looking for bugs worms and slugs otherwise know as tasty morsels to chickens

I intend to put some garden lime down when the weather allows in early spring

Mine love digging through the wood chip too (when it's not frozen!!!) just worrried about the amount of mash lying around under the grub! Was looking at garden lime as a natural option to stalosan - does it do the same thing?

As I understand it, garden lime neutralises the acidity of the soil caused by the poo. Stalosan is a disinfectant which will do much more good. I use both .
