worming and treats

Recommended Posts

Hi, firstly i am getting ready to change WIR wood chip bedding and was wondering if i should worm the girls first? Then they will go into nice clean bedding.

I use flubenvet and they were last treated Oct 5th '10.

I also use stalosan weekly so i hope any nasties are zapped.

With it still being Cold out there can i give my girls some corn before bed?

Sassi the welsummer banty has just started laying for first time 2nd Jan and i don't want to put her off while doing the floor change, was going to put the girls in the dog cage for a few hours while i do the change over.

Will sassi be okay with no nest box for a couple of hrs or am i being silly worrying over her creature comforts?

....just a first time chicken mommy wanting to get things right .....

..............thank you xxx.

Hi Angie, I worm mine every 3 months as well and a change of bed is a good idea but if you are using Stalosan that kills the eggs anyway. Sassi will be fine and just lay in the dog cage or hang on until you are done then tell you off

Advice given is usually not to give extras but I mix some codliver oil and flubenvet with treats as well so they continue with treatment.

The chickens should be fine whenever you start them on Flubenvet, it takes 7 days, its up to you weather you'll want to wait until after worming to put the bedding down. Stalosan will sort that out, anyway.

Yes, corn is a good idea in the afternoon,i give mine it about an hour before bed, as it takes longer to digest and gets their body heat up, not too much though, since they're meant to be on the flubenvet food. I gave mine a few hand-fulls between them and they are ok.. :anxious:

Sassi will be fine. She will either lay where she can, or hang on untill your done. Or you could change it over once she has laid the egg? :D

Goodluck

Thank you , i know i'm soft but your propably the only ones that understand how i have grown to love my little chickies.

I will weigh out the food and get them treated while the next few days are wet....then change the bedding..

I poo pick daily too,

The girls only get corn late afternoon and a few meal worms sometimes live ones and that is it, so not over spoiling on treats.

Thank you again .
