zahirb
Hi, One of my chickens is now approaching 7 years old. Her feathers have always been white, how i am noticing that they are turning brown, around the neck area. Is this normal or should i be concerned? Thanks in advance
Ain't Nobody Here
Wow, 7 years old . You must be doing something right . Perhaps it's the equivalent of us going grey ? My girls' feathers have changed colour too but usually after a moult.
zahirb
ANH, Snowy is the last of the original 3 girls. I had at first thought it was moulting related, however she's not lost any feathers.
zahirb
By the way ANH, i really like your Walk in Run. Especially the roll down sides.
sari
Could it be some sort of vitamin or mineral deficiency,as I think animals lose the ability to absorb/process minerals efficiently as they age....my cat had to have special drops as she got older, she was 14 tho
The Dogmother
I have a 5 year old hen - still going strong and producing the odd egg - she's a lavender pekin and has gradually got darker through the years an now has a very faint barred effect to her feathers. I am guessing that it's a colour line way back in her genes somewhere. Try her on a good poultry tonic and see how she goes. I wouldn't be too worried.
