Bramble
Daft question, I know but my chucks were out in the rain yesterday and must have been quite soggy by the time they popped themselves off to bed. Should I have toweled them dry, or am I being stupid, I'm sure they've got at least that wet before and I've never dried them?
madchickenlady
I never have when they've got wet in the garedn, but have blow dried them after a bath. They love getting blow dried!
JanTheDiver
Mine seem to love the rain and so often get wet and I have never dried them. They seem to steam themselves dry when they go back into the cube - well this is what I saw Tikka doing the other day when she went to bed
Trougher
I never have when they've got wet in the garedn, but have blow dried them after a bath. They love getting blow dried! Very interested - as a relatively new chicken owner, it has never occurred to me to bath the chickens - when and how do you bath a chicken? LeeMeadfan
I think I need to give Joni a bath!! She 's a whitestar but is absolutely filthy at the moment! Dried on mud on her tail feathers, mud on her neck etc. I know the other 2 girls are dark but still think I'd n otice if they had mud etc on them! They don't seem to mind the rain - although if it's really chucking it down they do tend to take shelter under shrubs or in their run! Joni always look s worse in the rain too - she's really quite small so very quickly looks like the proverbial drowned rat!
mollyripkim
My silkies got wet in the rain yesterday and I did dry them with some paper towel, but then silkies haven't got such waterproof feathers. They just sat on my lap while I did it.
docsquid
Mine seem to love getting wet - you'd think they were ducks not chooks! I don't dry them but if they have been wet, I shut them in the WIR for a while before bedtime so they can preen and tidy up and dry off a bit before going into the Cube or Eglu. NatalieC
I don't dry them when they've been out in the rain but I have bathed them before. When they've been out in the rain they are nowhere near as wet as when you bath them. After a bath they are soaked and really need to be dried with the hairdryer - they love it (the children at my daughter's school think its hilarious!). It takes absolutely ages to get them dry even with a hairdryer as their feathers soak up so much water. I've only bathed them occasionally when they really need it (I used to have Laverne who often had a mucky bum!).
Wolfie
If the ex-bats did get wet, we used to hair-dry them. After all, poor things didn't know what rain was! On the odd occasion if they were caught in a downpour in their grass run, they would stand there shivering. Now their grass pen has a perspex cover on, so they don't get wet. The Walk In Run is always dry.
