ClaireG Posted January 20, 2011 Share Posted January 20, 2011 We are moving from one rented property into another rented property, due to this property no longer being suitable. We spoke to our existing agents as the new agents needed refrences etc. We were told by our existing agents that notice could only run from the first of the month and has to be in writting. Thus, if we give our notice before the end of Jan we will oficially be leaving here at the end of Feb. We actually have a provisional move date of 10th Feb but don't mind having an overlap. Today, our existing agent phoned DH to ask if they can show someone round on Monday We havn't even given written notice yet. We are planning to do it this weekend. Can they actually do this? I told DH to ring back and say no. The house is in no fit state and neither is the garden. I can't do much due to my health and we've started to pack and have bits and pieces everywhere. I don't know how we stand on this one though. Can we stop them from allowing people to view? Can they insist once they have written notice? karlotta Posted January 20, 2011 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Your tenancy will most likely state that you agree to give access in the last month. But before then (ie if you haven't given notice) then you don't need to. But in general it's good to stay on the good side of your landlord/agent so if you aren't particulary bothered (and are definitely moving) it might be good to let them. It's more a timing issue at the moment, as there is no way i can get the house and garden ship shape myself because of my health. ClaireG Posted January 21, 2011 Author Share Posted January 21, 2011 We have checked our tenancy agreeement and it states that viewings must be allowed in the last month of the tenancy. So not before notice has been given! They are also advertising the property on their website which i think is really naughty of them when we havn't given offical notice. Notice doesn't need to be given until the end of the month and we need to check that the property we're moving to will be ready for the date we've provisonally been given. When i viewed there were electrical bits and bobs that needed finishing and although the boiler was in it hadn't been connected. Need to make sure all this has been done.
