Just the one or maybe?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Thinking of getting one or maybe two new ladies but I need to know just how well a total of four chooks cope with just an eglu classic and a 2m x 4m WIR between them, have to date only ever had a max of three ladies at one time. Will it cause problems having only the one nest box? is the run too small?

They will get free range time but this is intermittent due to my shift patterns, just want them to be comfortable but have my eye on a mendlesham blue and a heritage skyline. So is it one or both and if one, which one?

Regards Theresa

As long as they're similar sizes, 4 should be fine in an Eglu Classic with the run size you mentioned.

We've got 4 in a slightly smaller run than that.

In terms of the egg laying, once they get to know each other, they'll sort it out themselves. Hens can be surprisingly stubborn if they've decided to lay an egg - I've had double decker hens on a nest before today!
