beckyfitz
Sooo excited, this my first hatch, just candled a Sussex X & saw very clear little dude doing somersaults in his egg! Pretty sure all 3 of the Legbar X are clears but will give it another day or two to be sure.

craftyhunnypie
In an infertile fresh egg the yolk floats very easily around & not much else can be seen. Sometimes in a fertile egg, you don't always see veins - but a shadow on darkness & sometimes a dark blob. If you are a beginner, it is easy to assume that this could be a blood spot. But it is often the embryo & you will find that after shining the torch / candling device for a little while the dark spot will move about. It sort of floats across the egg. There are some excellent candling photos on the internet - those helped me when I first hatched. P.S. I tend to candle at 8 days, as this is when I see the most & can be certain. beckyfitz
Thanks. We are now on day 7 but I ended up candling them all last night with the boys helping. 6 definitely had little dancing embryos in, it was so amazing to see - nearly as good as seeing a baby scan The 3 clears are definitely clear, just a normal yolk floating around, but there is one more, an Orpington X I think which we couldn't be sure of. I'm not surprised about the Legbar X all being clear as all the same breed & though they run with the cockeral same as the others they may not be mating yet or he might not be choosing them IYKWIM!. Oh the joy of new life is so exciting! Becky x
