dirt/sand bath

Recommended Posts

I am now the proud owner of a Go with extended run, huge when you try and put it together, and 4 chickens, coral, columbine, columbian black tail and a red one,(that is my friends) picked up friday pm and had our first 3 eggs yesterday. proper eggs not mishaped or small.

I know I need to give them a bath, please could you advise me on what sort of sand to get, into which I put louse powder?

many thanks.

Congratulations on your new chooks, we all like to see pictures on this forum!

For a dustbath you can use play sand or just good old soil from the ground. Anything they can flick up into their feathers basically. If you have a wood burner you can add wood ash too.You will need a container that's not too shallow as they don't half fling it all around given the chance!

many thanks, will find some sand and put some louse stuff in it this pm, so a shallow box or plant tray would do? not something that will move easily or get blown away? had another egg this am. makes 5 since getting them home friday late. the coral has laid two now I was a little surprised as the black tail and black one laid before her.

congrats on the eggs, is'nt it great when you get eggs i just love it. I have used a shallow seeding tray which they loved but my neice jumped on it and broke it :x . At the moment i am using a shallow box with dry soil in and they are enjoing them selves :D with the soil or sand it should'net blow away. But don't forget your camera you will get some great shots :D
