CallyChook
I am grieving my garden size today. It's that time of year for me, time to fire up the incy, and for some reason I have developed a fondness for black pekins over the winter. I have a large space in my garden with my four big birds, and a slightly smaller but not by much space for the polands and silkies. I have thought long and hard about splitting the garden with the bigger birds in two and putting some in there, but I cant do it, I keep thinking my big folk would be upset and it would be cruel. So I am having chicken woe, misery about the lack of space in my garden. If only I had another few feet! My mum has said I can take over her garden which I will be doing when money permits, but I have my heart set on crevecoeurs and houdans there. Again, birds who dont mix well with non-crested breeds!!! So no black pekins for me. I could always breed some birds for sale, but what breed do you think I would have the least trouble selling? Ho hum, if I got stuck with extra birds that'd be troubling...
mollyripkim
I know what you mean so I'll join you in your woe. Never thought I would feel like this as would love some more girls but just haven't the room. Seriously thinking about hatching eggs as well, the breeder offers a rehoming service for girls and dispatching for the boys which don't think I am up to! Chortle Chook
You have probably thought of this already, but rather than splitting by hen size, why not split by 'crested' and 'non-crested' and then put your Crevecoeurs and Houdans in with your Polands and Silkies and some little black Pekins in with the bigger girls. After all Pekins are sparky little things.
