AJuff
I like the look of these but the Internet is full of negative comment. However I believe it's been modified. Has anyone got experience of the new ones?
sjp
I'm been useing one for best part of 4 weeks with no problems my 6 chicks play under it and on it 2 can perch on each side frame at the moment.I don't think I'd use it for more than 6-7 LF chicks through at 4 weeks old their getting abit snug under it
Blue-DiamondChick07
Mine was litterally just delivered. I'm having issues with the clips on the side that holds it in place I'll wait for OH to come home.
TAJ
Like you I read the negative reviews (related to it having no radiant heat and only heating through contact) - it has been moderated apparently to give some radiant heat - the newer ones have a black heated panel underside, not the original grey - infact if you look on the Brinsea website they even offered to replace any of the original grey ones for free so it was a genuine problem. I purchase one last week, but I think I have had issues with it (always difficult to prove cause & effect) I put my chicks in the brooder with it Sunday - all fine Sunday night (though I felt they had to stand to get really warm) I thought some of them had cold feet Monday, but all seemed happy and fine. I came down this morning (Tuesaday) to find 1 chick half out of it and stone cold - I thought it was dead, despite getting to warm it up in my hands by holding it for over an hour and it perking up a bit sadly it did die later today. Again I thought the chicks felt cold on their feet (only heated from above) this morning and following the problem with one chick I put the Eco Glow at one end of the brooder and got my usual heat lamp and hung it at the other end. I can report in 10hours I have not seen 21 chick under the Eco Glow since - they are staying near or around the other end with the heat lamp - all feel much warmer to touch now. Certainly it would be difficult to prove my chick died because of the Eco Glow not giving enough heat (they are in my heated house - it is not as though they are in an outbuilding), but I can say given the choice they all use the heat lamp in preference and feel a lot warmer and are running about a lot more. Given my experience I wouldn't recommend one. Tracy
