iggyigster
As part of our anti rat measures we stopped leaving out wild bird feed, just after I bought a job lot of robin, tit and goldfinch feed. I've seen articles on home made pecking blocks and was thinking of using the wild bird seed to make one. Is it safe and of any nutritional value for hens? Plum
I think it is fine if it doesn't have any suet or fat in it.
sarahpark
I have caught my girls sat beneath the bird feeder deliberately waiting for birds to come and then eating whatever is dropped! Hasn't done them any harm!
beach chick
the fat content - if you mix with suet or whatever - is the problem. layers pellets or mash is the 'best' because it gives them all the right nutrients in the right balance. wild bird seed shouldnt do any harm, but could reduce their laying potential...
