Tina C
We had some asparagus yesterday (delicious). I was wondering if I could give the woody ends to the chooks to peck at? Should I cook them?
JohnP
Best thing (IMO) to do with the stalks of asparagus is to make vegetable stock. Add an onion, carrot, perhaps celery or fennel, and a teaspoon of peppercorns, boil up for a while and Bob's your uncle! Perfect for using in risotto or whatever else. Our chickens wouldn't touch them - they despise anything hard and will only eat soft food! (Cooked potatoes or pasta are favourite.)
Tina C
Actually we are having (spinach) risotto for tea so maybe I should do that... but I do like to share nice things with the chickens.
