Tweety
I am just setting up my Octagon 20 and reading about temperature and ventilation. After reading posts on here, I am thinking of doing the following: Setting the temperature at 37.5, reducing it to 37.1 for hatching. Incubating dry until day 15 - I am incubating bantam eggs - then stopping egg turning and raising humidity to about 55 per cent for hatching. Will this be ok? The only information I can find about ventilation is that the air vent must be at least one third open during hatching. Please can someone advise me about ventilation during incubation? Do I start the incubator running with the air vent open, closed or somewhere in between? Sorry if it seems a stupid question, but I want to do the right thing. scarlettohara
I kept my temp at 37.5 for whole hatch and stopped turning at day 18, this was for bantams and they started pipping on day 19.
the-real-tinkerbell
i did the same for my bantams and they hatched between day 19 and day
Tweety
Thanks for that. I'll keep the temp at 37.5 then. What did you do about ventilation though?
Redwing
I have Octagon 20 and 40 - I reduce the temp to 37.3 for hatching, I used to bring it down to 37.0 but found that dragged out the hatch over a couple of days The rest of your plan sounds good Leave the vent at least a third open throughout the whole 21 days - fully open for the first 18 days and then closed a bit for hatching - never less than a third open though
Tweety
Many thanks Redwing. I couldn't find that information re ventilation anywhere else, but thought you might come up with the answer!
