karlotta
Why is it when you want a broody hen you don't have one? I've been patiently (not) willing one of the girls to go broody as I'm keen to try hatching some Runner Ducklings. I thought my luck might be in with one of last years pekin babies, but she didn't stick at it for more than a day so I've given up and put the incubator on to warm up! If I'm honest I'm happier doing it this way first as I can't be sure they are fertile and expecting her to sit on big chunky runner duck eggs for 4 weeks seems a bit mean! Will have to wait for an orp to go broody to do it the other way! (have never had a broody orp though, so may be waiting a while! I've got 10 eggs waiting to go once it's up to temperature so with a bit of luck might have some cute ducklings before Easter! I guess if someone goes broody in the meantime I could smuggle a couple underneath and put the rest in under cover of darkness on hatching day!
