Will Kiki ever lay again?

Recommended Posts

My top hen, Kiki has been with us for 20 months (Kiki and her late friend Kent were our first Omlet hens).

She layed like clockwork until September last year - after 3 weeks of softies, she stopped laying. She's fine other than that, everything as normal, but she just doesn't lay... (She gets wormed regularly with Flubenvet too).

My gut instinct is that there's nothing wrong with her, but does anyone else know of similar aged hens that have stopped laying?

Hi, i havent heard of it as mine arent that old yet, but willow was pecked in the eye and also had sour crop at the same time, so we put her in an eglu on her own as our hens would have killed her, they wouldnt leave her alone. We went to a special avian vet and willow was on 4 medications , twice a day, she was a trooper though, no trouble at all when mummy and daddy came to catch her! lol the avian vet told us she would never see or lay again, he eye is cloudy but it moves when you walk past etc so i think she sees something and the vet told me her eye would have to be removed or sewn up, we didnt want to do either so thought let nature take its course, after her medication finished she has laid an egg everyday since, she is a perfect layer! just shows what the vet knows.. and that my Willow must be happy! Anyway rambling here! let nature take it course, you never know she may not lay again but may come back into it anytime, do you feed pellets/mash for garden hens? that helped mine loads when they were laying, howver a couple of weeks ago all 7 of mine stopped laying for over a week ...ALL OF THEM! but know they lay everyday...maybe they just have off spots, like all women i suppose! keep us posted xxx

I thought my Sarah-Jane had stopped when she was around 2 years old, she actually took a 6 month break, and is now back to laying pretty much every day

She had had a particularly bad moult though when she stopped, and even though she feathered up again really quickly, I just think she needed a break :D

I also have 2 ex batts that are coming up to 4 years old now, and I still get the odd egg every few months from them :P
