Which bantam breed?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a bantam silkie and a epileptic polish hen, Id like to get another one or two but have been advised to only get other bantams incase my polish is bullied.

So.....which bantams as I do love my girls but I wouldn't mind a few eggs! I was looking at RIR as they are meant to be friendly and good egg layers but now I have to look at bantams, someone said you can get bantam RIR's but not around here you can't! Lol!

So i need a breed that is friendly, not into jumping fences or making loads and loads of noise and actually lays eggs oh and is also not too hard to find :)

Any ideas?

I have a RIR bantam that I rescued along with an orp, a salmon fav and a wellsumer so rather that try and integrate her with the bantams on her own I kept her with the big girls... she's DEFINITELY not anywhere near the bottom of the pecking order and will happily take on most of the big girls!

I'd say Pekins are generally friendly as well as Brahma bantams.

I don't know where you live Emzy but have you thought of Frizzles? They are so cute looking and my two are both very friendly, are laying nicely and seem rather bright (well for chooks). If you live not too far from Henley then PM me and I can recommend a breeder. My other chooks are Silkies and I can say they are every bit as nice.

Wyandottes are lovely but I am a bit biased

The recommendation of Frizzles (pure bred as opposed to frizzle feathered Pekins) is a good one, they are pretty placid. Pekins are a bit more feisty but not really agressive. Bantam orps are super, very placid and friendly but quite a bit bigger than your Poland

Of course an obvious option is to add a couple more Polands
