Hi all, we've just collected 3 Scots Dumpies and are smitten already. Just a bit concerned, 1 of the hens seems to be pecking at the youngest quite often, which then encourages the other one to join in. As I said we only got them yesterday and know that they have to work out their pecking order but don't want to leave it to become a major problem. We've sprayed some anti pecking stuff on her tonight before they were put to bed, has anyone got any other advice as we really would appreciate it.

Just read another question about one hen being pecked by others and feel a bit more at ease, she doesn't scream out when they do it and she's eating and drinking when they allow her to. She's at point of lay and wondered if this might have anything to do with it as the others have both laid their first eggs for us today.

i wouldnt worry too much. They pecking should calm down. I have done two lots of intros and the original pair pecked at the new pair. Then added two more and the four were pecking at the two new ones. this has quickly calmed down and has taken about a week. They still do it a bit now but they dont seem to be too bothered

THREE Scots' Dumpies - Ooo I'm so They're quite rare aren't they? I've heard they are really gentle too so I'm sure they will soon settle down with one another under your care. Any pictures? I just have to take a look

They seem to be settling a bit, but Aggie (the agressive ) chases Banjo still, I feel so sorry for her but she's eating and drinking still and it's not constant. Other than that They're fab we've got 2 black and 1 white. We've had 4 eggs 2 from each of the black girls, as Banjo hasn't started laying yet. They Ventured out into the 'Omlet' fencing run yesterday and seem to love it, so quiet don't seem to be big scratchers (their legs are so short), but absolutely crazy for dried mealworms, apples and strawberries (spoilt girls) We hung a chunk of broccoli in their pen, they're so funny it looks like they're training for a boxing match, they peck it then duck and dive I will try to post some photos tomorrow.

Still not got round to posting piccies of the girls but will do soon.

 

Just wanted to give an update, all 3 are getting on like long lost friends, which I so pleased with.

 

I was such a proud mummy yesterday as Banjo the baby of the group (and the one that was getting picked on) laid her first egg!! So happy, got 3 eggs yesterday, Ham egg and chips for tea at the weekend.
